ABOUT DAISY

"A deep understanding of the text, a serious engagement with the material, musicality and expressivety are some of Daisy's defining qualities, that are certainly reflected in all of her performances."
- Ludmila Proujanskaïa, PhD in Philology, teacher, translator, and journalist for Radio Canada

Daisy is a young soprano from the city of Montreal, Canada.

She grew up in a family of immigrants who moved to Canada from the Soviet Union (Russia and Estonia). She is fluent in four languages. Although Daisy was born in Canada, the first language she learned as a child was Russian. She then learned French, English and Italian while in school.

Studying the Italian language occupies a separate line in Daisy's biography. After attending the class of Vincenzo Ditoma, a teacher but also a singer and composer, Daisy not only fell in love with the Italian language and culture, but has also found an artistic mentor in Vincenzo.

From the age of eight, Daisy began serious vocal training with Olga Perekhodenko (Studio Sound Nest), a gifted pianist and singer, a  graduate of the Gnessin Academy in Moscow. Additionally, Daisy studied piano with Olga and Vladimir Horoshansky, composer, pianist and conductor, and passed yearly examinations at the McGill Schulich School of Music Conservatory, with distinction and honors. Olga put her heart and soul into their lessons, which inspired Daisy to pursue a musical career.

After winning first prize in the Broadway/Musical Theater category of the American Protégé International Vocal Competition and performing at Carnegie Hall in the winners' recital, Daisy went on to seriously pursuing her classical vocal performance studies. After graduating from Collège International Marie de France (CiMF) in 2022, she was admitted in a joint program between Marianopolis College and McGill Schulich School of Music in Montreal, where she double majored in Music and Arts, Literature and Communications (ALC). For two years, Daisy studied classical voice with Anja Burmeister Strauss, a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York.

Currently, Daisy is pursuing her musical education at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, working towards her Bachelor's Degree in Classical Vocal Performance.

She began her MSM journey studying with the incomparable Marlena Malas.

She is now a student of one of the most sought-after vocal teachers, Cynthia Hoffmann.

In the Fall 2024, Daisy will be studying for a full semester at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Dance de Paris, in Paris, as part of an exchange program organized by Manhattan School of Music.

Throughout her artistic journey, Daisy has been a part of many theatrical productions with various theatre companies in Montreal, concerts, recitals, and has been a laureate of numerous vocal competitions and festivals in Quebec, Ontario and New York.

At the Manhattan School of Music, Daisy became an enthusiastic member of the Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Malcolm J. Merriweather. Performing soprano solo parts in 3 of the choir's 4 concerts, Daisy gained tremendous experience in choral singing.

In January 2023, the directors of MSM's Graduate Opera Theatre (GOT) program invited her to perform the role of Une Bête in their concert production of Maurice Ravel's opera L'Enfant et les Sortilèges.

In June 2023, she was invited by cellist Stéphane Tétrault to perform as a soloist in the 12th annual edition of the Future Star's Grand Premiere (Grande Première des Futures Étoiles) Gala Concert at the Place des Arts, in Montreal.
In July of that same year, Daisy had her official opera role debut as the Sorella Infermiera in Puccini's Suor Angelica on the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheatre stage, under the aegis of Marlena Malas.
She also performed the roles of Sutton/Marine/Miss Foster in Kurt Weill's Lady in the Dark, in August (2023, Chautauqua Opera Conservatory)

Her other opera roles were performed in her Undergraduate Scenes Recitals at the Manhattan School of Music: Lucy (The Telephone, G. C. Menotti), Musetta (La bohème, G.Puccini), Zémire (Zémire et Azor, A. Grétry), Charlotte (A Little Night Music, S. Sondheim), Lady Harriet Durham (Marhta, F. von Flotow), Adriana (The Boys from Syracuse) were the most important ones.

In July 2024, Daisy will be back on the Amphitheatre Stage of the Chautauqua Institution as Maria in Chautauqua Opera Conservatory's main stage production of Nino Rota's opera I due timidi. This role is very important to Daisy emotionally as it is the last role she was entrusted by her late teacher, Marlena Malas.
